Woman Pleads Guilty to False Grand Jury Testimony

An Idaho woman pleaded guilty today to providing false testimony to the Multicounty Grand Jury, Attorney General Drew Edmondson said.

Aletha Ann Vaught was indicted in May 2008 on one count of perjury for allegedly “feloniously, willfully and unlawfully” offering untrue statements when appearing as a witness before the grand jury.

Vaught appeared before the Multicounty Grand Jury in April 2008 as part of a cold case investigation into a 1980 Pontotoc County murder. Vaught was testifying after a monitored telephone conversation revealed she may have information about the crime. The wire tap was conducted by the Pontotoc County District Attorney’s Office, Office of Attorney General, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. The Pontotoc County District Attorney’s Office is handling the murder case.

Vaught will be sentenced Jan. 20 in Oklahoma County District Court after entering a blind plea today.
