AG Supports Effort to Limit Child Pornography

Attorney General Drew Edmondson is one of 44 attorneys general to express support for an agreement between the National Cable and Telecommunications Association (NCTA) and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) that will limit the availability of child pornography on the Internet.

The agreement will allow Internet service providers to access NCMEC’s database of web sites identified as containing child pornography. The providers can use this information to ensure that no such site is hosted on servers owned or controlled by any NCTA member company.

“I fully support the effort to limit access to online child pornography. Advances in technology have changed the way our society exchanges information, but it has also provided another avenue for criminal activity. This partnership will help Internet service providers identify and report child pornography which will hopefully lead to a reduction in its availability and an increase in the arrests and prosecution of the criminals who produce, distribute and possess it.”

Edmondson said the agreement is important because NCTA member companies provide Internet service to more than 90 percent of cable broadband homes.
