Former ME Investigator to Stand Trial on Oklahoma County Sexual Battery Charge 11/20/2009

The former chief investigator at the state medical examiner’s office will stand trial in Oklahoma County District Court on one count of sexual battery, Attorney General Drew Edmondson said today. Kevin E. Rowland is accused of touching a medical examiner employee in a “lewd and lascivious manner” and making a sexually explicit statement in reference to the employee’s body. The alleged battery occurred in December 2007. Rowland was indicted by the Multicounty Grand Jury July 20. He was bound over for trial at a preliminary hearing today. Eugene Naukam Waives Preliminary Hearing on CASA Conspiracy and Embezzlement Charges 11/20/2009

An Oklahoma City man was ordered to stand trial today on allegations he embezzled funds from an Oklahoma children’s organization, Attorney General Drew Edmondson said. Eugene M. Naukam, III, waived preliminary hearing and will stand trial on one count of conspiracy to commit a felony and 41 counts of embezzlement for his alleged role in a scheme to steal funds from the Court Appointed Special Advocate Association. Court Dismisses Tarrant Water District Lawsuit 11/18/2009

Attorney General Drew Edmondson today said a federal court has dismissed a Tarrant Regional Water District lawsuit which aimed to send Oklahoma water to Texas. Claiming Oklahoma water law was unconstitutional, Tarrant sought to force the Oklahoma Water Resources Board to allow the Texas water district access to waters within Oklahoma’s borders. Edmondson Applauds FDA Review of Alcohol Energy Drinks 11/13/2009

Attorney General Drew Edmondson today applauded a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announcement that it plans to look into the safety and legality of caffeinated alcoholic drinks. Edmondson and a group of his colleagues earlier this year requested the review. Alcoholic energy drinks (AEDs) are a class of alcoholic beverages to which caffeine and other stimulants are added at the point of manufacture. Tulsa Attorney, Former Lawyer Charged with Embezzling More Than $1 Million From Clients 11/05/2009

A 21-month investigation culminated today in charges against a Tulsa attorney and a former attorney on allegations that they embezzled more than $1.1 million from clients, Attorney General Drew Edmondson said. William J. Anton and Fred M. Schraeder are accused in Tulsa County District Court of racketeering, conspiracy and multiple counts of embezzlement, forgery and workers’ compensation fraud. Schraeder, 59, is a Tulsa attorney and Anton, 59, is a former lawyer who surrendered his law license in 2007, but continued to practice, albeit illegally. AG Advocates for Funding of Cancer Research and Treatment Center 11/02/2009

Citing what would be the organization’s “signature achievement,” Attorney General Drew Edmondson today called on the Oklahoma Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust’s board of directors to fund the operation of a cancer research and treatment center at the University of Oklahoma.
