The Oklahoma Office of the Attorney General is currently seeking a full-time Communications Director for our Executive Unit.

Position Summary:

This position works directly with the attorney general and all senior leadership to drive the agency’s agenda and key messaging. The communications director must be skilled at writing, public speaking, media coordination and more.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Drive the agency’s communications strategy across audiences and platforms.
  • Serve as the chief spokesperson and chief contact for local, state and national media.
  • Advise the attorney general on media, public relations and communications decisions.
  • Draft, coordinate and disseminate all communications materials for the agency.
  • Write formal remarks, press releases, background materials, opinion pieces and more.
  • Oversee the creation of digital, audio, video, and print content for public consumption.
  • Manage media relations including contacts with journalists, government PIOs and more.
  • Schedule and oversee events such as press conferences, media interviews and more.
  • Act as chief content manager for the agency’s website and social media accounts.
  • Supervise one direct report and determine duty sharing, internal deadlines, and more.
  • Travel with the attorney general to provide assistance at meetings and events. 

Qualifications:

At least five years of government communications or related job experience and a bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or a related discipline. Preference may be given to candidates with previous experience in a law enforcement office or criminal justice system.
