OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General John O’Connor today released the following statement on the announced retirement of Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe.

“Senator Inhofe has been an exemplary leader for Oklahoma and for the United States of America. I want to thank him for his 27 years of service in the U.S. Senate, and for all he has done for our great state over the course of his career. He has worked tirelessly on behalf of all Americans, dedicating his life and career to fighting for a safer and stronger America.

“I received complaints from several parents about books in public school libraries which the parents found obscene. I will always listen to the complaints of Oklahomans. I recommended that they present their objections to the school boards. I also recommended that they talk with the legislature regarding how Oklahoma law defines ‘obscenity.’

“Our office is not conducting an investigation in this matter at this time. I understand that there is proposed legislation that has been introduced in this new session to address these parents’ concerns.

OKLAHOMA CITY - Attorney General John O’Connor, as part of a bipartisan coalition of 49 attorneys general, led by Florida, Iowa, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee, has called on the Federal Trade Commission to adopt a national rule to target impersonation scams.  

A comment letter from the attorneys general raises concerns about the plethora of impersonation scams targeting consumers and the current lack of a national rule to outlaw these fraudulent acts and protect Americans.

OKLAHOMA CITY - In a multistate effort led by Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, Attorney General John O’Connor is joining the call for U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ resignation. Citing the continued failure to enforce federal law and secure the southwest border, the coalition of 14 state attorneys general is demanding that Secretary Mayorkas leave office as his failed leadership has resulted in a disaster at the southwest border and led the nation to the verge of a national security crisis.

OKLAHOMA CITY - Continuing to fight to protect Oklahoman workers’ rights, Attorney General John O’Connor is joining an effort led by Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody against President Biden’s federal contractor vaccine mandate. Attorney General O’Connor joined 17 other state attorneys general in signing on to an amicus brief supporting the state of Georgia’s suit seeking an immediate end to the president’s unlawful mandate.

OKLAHOMA CITY - Today, Attorney General John O’Connor filed first-degree felony murder charges against Joshua Josiah Toliver, 23, after an investigation found the drugs he sold to an Oklahoma County man were the cause of his death. 

According to court documents, Toliver is accused of selling fake oxycodone pills that contained fentanyl to Cole Stamps, 27, in September 2021.

A medical examiner determined the probable cause of death was “Acute Fentanyl Toxicity,” and found 14 ng/mL of fentanyl in Stamps’ blood.

OKLAHOMA CITY - Today, Attorney General John O’Connor responded to inquiries about whether an Oklahoma licensed physician is prohibited from prescribing a drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the “off-label” purpose of treating or preventing COVID-19.

The Attorney General’s office finds no legal basis for a state medical licensure board to discipline a licensed physician for exercising sound judgement and safely prescribing an FDA-approved drug – like ivermectin or hydroxychloroquine – for the off-label purpose of treating a patient with COVID-19.

OKLAHOMA CITY - Attorney General John O’Connor today joined a multistate lawsuit against the Biden Administration for its abuse of the Central American Minors (CAM) Refugee and Parole Program.

The CAM program provides certain aliens in the United States the ability to secure protected status after entering the country illegally. The aliens can petition the government to bring in extended family members from Honduras, El Salvador, or Guatemala.

OKLAHOMA CITY - "I appreciate the Supreme Court's decision to review our petition to confirm that the State has the authority to prosecute non-Indians who commit crimes against Indians in Indian country.

"This is a step forward for the State of Oklahoma and is of paramount importance, given that the overwhelming majority of people who live in eastern Oklahoma are not of Indian heritage.
