OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General Mike Hunter has charged a former office manager at a Warr Acres nursing facility with two felony counts of embezzlement and three felony counts of obtaining money by false pretenses after an investigation by the attorney general’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.

The investigation found that Sandra Tovar was running a fraudulent billing scheme, where she would divert residents’ payments for nursing care at the facility to her own bank account. Throughout the course of her employment, investigators claim Tovar embezzled nearly $20,000.

Lights outside the building will remain purple through the weekend

OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General Mike Hunter today announced the lights outside of the Attorney General’s Office in Oklahoma City will turn purple from Friday night through the weekend in observance of International Overdose Awareness Day and in remembrance of Oklahomans who have died from an overdose.

NORMAN – Cleveland County District Judge Thad Balkman today ordered Purdue Pharma and Janssen Pharmaceuticals to make witnesses available next week for deposition by Attorney General Mike Hunter’s legal team.

The order came in response to emergency motions filed by the state earlier this week asking the court to sanction the companies for not complying with prior court orders to produce witnesses for depositions.

TULSA – Attorney General Mike Hunter today charged a former board president of the Down Syndrome Association of Tulsa for allegedly embezzling money from the organization.

Jamie Harper faces 19 counts of embezzlement and one count of engaging in a pattern of criminal offenses after an investigation by the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Unit.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General Mike Hunter today commended the decision by Cleveland County District Judge Thad Balkman to allow journalists to use cameras in the courtroom during the state’s trial against the nation’s leading manufacturers of opioids, scheduled for May 2019.

The announcement comes after attorneys representing The Oklahoman Publishing Company sent a letter to Judge Balkman requesting the use of cameras during the trial.

TULSA – Attorney General Mike Hunter has taken action in response to a South Carolina federal judge’s ruling that overturned Pres. Donald Trump’s attempt to delay the contentious Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule.

The judge’s decision reinstates the 2015 WOTUS rule immediately in Oklahoma and 25 other states.
