Attorney General Hunter Seeks Applicants for Safe Oklahoma Grant Program

Application deadline is July 7

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma Attorney General Mike Hunter announced the application period for the 2017 Safe Oklahoma Grant Program is now open through Friday, July 7.

The Attorney General’s Safe Oklahoma Grant Program provides local law enforcement agencies and sheriff’s offices with additional resources to address violent crime in the state. The money from the grant helps pay overtime costs to officers, technology upgrades, enhanced analytical capabilities and funds community partnership projects that focus on preventing youth violent crime.

Attorney General Hunter encourages local law enforcement entities and sheriff's offices to apply for the grant to help fight crime in their communities.

“We have seen many violent criminals, including drug dealers, put behind bars because of the success of the Safe Oklahoma Grant Program,” Attorney General Hunter said. “In 2016 alone, we directed money to fund 27 different projects aimed to protect our families and neighbors. I hope all police departments and sheriff’s offices take advantage of this program and submit an application.”

Established in 2012, The Attorney General’s Safe Oklahoma Grant Program is funded by an annual appropriation from the state legislature. All local law enforcement agencies and sheriff's offices are eligible for the grant. Grants are made for a one-year period.

The application deadline is Friday, July 7. The funds will be distributed to the approved entities later this summer. Download a copy of the 2017 application, here.
