Samuel Okere to pay more than $140,000 in restitution

OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General Mike Hunter and acting U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma Robert J. Troester announced an Oklahoma City behavioral health counselor has pleaded guilty to Medicaid fraud.

At sentencing later this year, Samuel Okere, 61, of Oklahoma City, faces up to of 10 years in federal prison, followed by three years’ probation and up to $250,000 in fines after a federal grand jury charged him with 224 counts of Medicaid fraud last November.

Attorney General Mike Hunter today issued the following statement commending the members of both the Oklahoma House and Senate after approving a bill that criminalizes the trafficking of fentanyl and its equivalents.

Senate Bill 1078 is the first piece of legislation recommended by the Oklahoma Commission on Opioid Abuse to pass both chambers and make it to the governor’s desk.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General Mike Hunter today announced that a $300,000 settlement stemming from a lawsuit, alleging an illegal kickback scheme has been reached with Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA) board of trustees.

Attorney General Hunter said settling the case was important in order to avoid disruption in ambulance services to Oklahomans relying on EMSA.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General Mike Hunter today led a bipartisan coalition of 48 states in sending a letter of support to the authors of proposed federal legislation that, if passed into law, would ease federal restrictions currently limiting states’ Medicaid Fraud Control Units (MFCU).

Authored by U.S. Representatives Tim Walberg, R-Mich. and Peter Welch, D-Vt., HR 3891 would expand states’ MFCUs authority to detect, investigate and prosecute cases of abuse or neglect of Medicaid patients outside of institutional settings, without losing federal financial participation.

New protocol currently being developed

OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General Mike Hunter and Corrections Director Joe M. Allbaugh today announced inert gas inhalation will be the state’s primary method of execution once a protocol is developed and finalized.

The new method’s adoption comes as officials with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections (DOC) cannot acquire the proper drugs required to perform executions by lethal injection.
