Transparency in State Government

Open Records

About Oklahoma's Freedom of Information Laws

The Oklahoma open meetings and open records act help make the work of the state transparent. The purpose of the act is to ensure and facilitate the public's right of access to and review of government records so they may efficiently and intelligently exercise their inherent political power.

WE CAN PROCESS REQUESTS PERTAINING ONLY TO RECORDS OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE. IF YOU SEEK RECORDS FROM ANOTHER AGENCY, PLEASE DIRECT THE REQUEST TO THAT SPECIFIC AGENCY.

Read the Open Records Act.

Public Access Counselor

The Public Access Counselor position was created in March 2023 when Attorney General Gentner Drummond appointed former State Sen. Anthony Sykes to the position. It is the goal of the Public Access Counselor to ensure that public bodies in Oklahoma comply with Oklahoma’s Open Meetings and Open Records Acts and is part of General Drummond’s commitment to increasing transparency in Oklahoma. Individuals who believe that a public body is failing to comply with Oklahoma’s Open Meetings or Open Records Act may contact the Office of Attorney General at [email protected].
