OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General Mike Hunter today was administered the oath of office and sworn in for his first full term as the state’s chief legal officer during the inaugural ceremony on the south steps of the Oklahoma State Capitol.
First appointed to the position in 2017, Attorney General Hunter received more than 64 percent of the vote and carried all 77 counties in the Nov. 6 general election.
Since taking office, he has made the safety and security of Oklahomans and curbing the state’s opioid abuse and overdose epidemic among his top priorities.
“Serving as the state’s attorney general is the privilege of a lifetime,” Attorney General Hunter said. “I am deeply humbled to be granted this opportunity by Oklahomans to act as their attorney general. I am also blessed to be surrounded by a tremendous team of hardworking, dedicated public servants. My team and I work every day with the best interests of Oklahomans in mind as we work to make our state a safer place to live.
“Over the next four years, we are going to build on our track record of success by continuing to prosecute criminals, advocate for reasonable rates for Oklahoma utility customers, work to reduce the number of individuals addicted to opioids or dying from overdoses and protecting state interests from out of state overreach.
“Additionally, I want to thank my wife Cheryl, sons Barrett, Brock and daughter-in-law Rachael for their unwavering love and support.”
The Attorney General’s Office is comprised of six divisions that oversee 13 different units that provide Oklahomans with a variety of resources to assist the needs of individuals and protect state interests. The agency’s role is to also provide legal advice to state officials and represent the state in court, among other duties.
Attorney General Hunter began his career as a private sector attorney, where he focused on energy and real estate law. He has served the state in multiple capacities, including secretary of state for two governors, secretary of the Commissioners of the Land Office, general counsel at the Oklahoma Corporation Commission and was previously elected and served six-years in the Oklahoma House of Representatives, representing District 85 in Oklahoma City.
