OKLAHOMA CITY (April 14, 2023) - Death row inmate Anthony Sanchez was denied a request for a new hearing yesterday by the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals. Sanchez is scheduled to be executed later this year for the 1996 murder of University of Oklahoma dance student Juli Busken.

OKLAHOMA CITY (April 13, 2023) – Attorney General Gentner Drummond issued a formal opinion today affirming a recent report by the Legislative Office of Fiscal Transparency (LOFT) that found significant shortcomings in state purchasing oversight.
Responding to an opinion requested by state Rep. Ryan Martinez, Drummond wrote that the Office of Management and Enterprise Services (OMES) is required to maintain oversight of all agency acquisitions, including verifying an agency’s claim that an acquisition is exempted from the Central Purchasing Act.

OKLAHOMA CITY (April 12, 2023) – Attorney General Gentner Drummond made the following remarks after a federal district judge in North Dakota today granted a preliminary injunction of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule. The injunctive relief blocks the EPA from implementing the rule in Oklahoma and 23 other states that have challenged it.

OKLAHOMA CITY (April 12, 2023) – Attorney General Gentner Drummond and attorneys general from neighboring states joined in a lawsuit today against the Biden administration over a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFW) rule that designates the lesser prairie chicken as endangered or threatened under the Endangered Species Act.
The rule, which took effect late last month, places burdensome restrictions on Oklahoma ranchers who graze livestock and unnecessarily impedes the development of energy pipelines, oil drilling, wind farms and roads.

OKLAHOMA CITY (April 4, 2023) - Oklahoma law does not give the State Board of Education (SBE) the ability to make administrative rules without proper direction from the state Legislature, Attorney General Gentner Drummond ruled in a formal opinion issued today.
“It is well settled that an agency may only exercise the powers expressly given by statute,” the opinion states. “An agency cannot expand those powers by its own authority.”
