OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General Mike Hunter today released the following statement, applauding members of both Congressional chambers for passing legislation that will cut down on robocalls.

The Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED) Act requires service providers to verify incoming calls are legitimate before reaching consumers, and gives the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) more ability to impose and collect fines for illegal calls. Violators could be fined up to $10,000.

The legislation is expected to be signed by the president.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General Mike Hunter today sent a letter to Congress, asking members to take quick action on legislation that would permanently classify illicitly manufactured fentanyl and related substances as Schedule I drugs.

PAULS VALLEY – Attorney General Mike Hunter announced today the Pauls Valley couple who were charged over the summer with crimes relating to child abuse have each received a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Garvin County District Judge Leah Edwards sentenced Gerrad Coddington, 25, and Christina Nelson-Coddington, 30, both of Pauls Valley, on all 29 counts relating to child abuse including first-degree rape, incest, child abuse, manufacturing child pornography and lewd acts with a minor, among others.

Attorney General Mike Hunter today announced that the state intends to appeal Cleveland County District Judge Thad Balkman’s final order issued last Friday in the trial against Johnson & Johnson.

The state agrees with Judge Balkman’s final order on a multitude of fronts. For example, the court correctly applied Oklahoma’s public nuisance law to this case, found that Johnson & Johnson is a direct cause of the state’s opioid epidemic, the epidemic is a public nuisance and menace to Oklahoma, and Johnson & Johnson is responsible for abating the nuisance.

TULSA - Attorney General Mike Hunter’s office has added a first-degree murder charge to a Tulsa man after an investigation alleges the drugs he sold to a Perkins woman were the cause of her overdose death.

Noah Montague, 25, was previously arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and the unlawful use of a communication device to commit a felony.

Attorney General Mike Hunter today released the following statement after Oklahoma County District Judge Don Andrews’ ruling that denied the plaintiffs request for a preliminary injunction that would have prevented the constitutional carry law from going into effect on Nov. 1.

The law will now take effect Friday, despite ongoing litigation.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General Hunter has sent a letter that calls on the websites Facebook, Craigslist and eBay to take more proactive measures to eliminate illegal online alcohol sales.

The letter was part of a multi-state, bipartisan, coalition of 46 attorneys general who are asking the companies to review current postings for online alcohol sales, remove illegal postings and develop programming to block and prevent users from violating state laws.

Joint task force continues successful campaign aimed at curbing illicit sex industry

TULSA – Law enforcement officials involved in a joint task force have arrested several individuals who orchestrate an organized crime ring that operates front businesses for the illicit sex industry.

Attorney General Hunter said the joint task force is laser-focused on curbing the problem in Oklahoma.

Attorney General Mike Hunter today announced the state has been awarded the federal Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) Grant to help collect, prioritize and test a number of the sexual assault forensic evidence kits that have been identified in police evidence rooms.

The three-year, $2.4 million grant, awarded by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance, will fund the initiatives put forth by the Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence (SAFE) Task Force after an audit identified over 7,000 sexual assault evidence kits were in police evidence rooms statewide.
