OKLAHOMA CITY – Attorney General John O’Connor and 35 attorneys general announced a $1 million multistate settlement with CarMax Auto Superstores, Inc. The settlement will require CarMax to disclose, before a sale, all open (unrepaired) recalls related to the safety of its used vehicles.

CarMax will continue to use the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) vehicle identification number tool to provide this important safety information to consumers. Consumers can also utilize this tool to check for any open recalls on their vehicles.

OKLAHOMA CITY - “The State’s execution of Richard Fairchild was carried out with zero complications at 10:24 this morning, 29 years after he brutally tortured to death three-year-old Adam Broomhall," said Attorney General John O'Connor. "Yesterday, Fairchild’s attorneys filed two lawsuits claiming he did not understand why he was being executed. In Fairchild’s last words, he called today ‘Justice for Adam day.’ Fairchild acknowledged that Adam would be 34 years old today and he apologized to Adam’s family.

OKLAHOMA CITY - Attorney General John O’Connor today announced that Oklahoma, along with 39 other states, has reached a $391.5 million multistate settlement with Google over its location tracking practices. The attorneys general opened the Google investigation following a 2018 Associated Press article that revealed Google “records your movements even when you explicitly tell it not to.”

This is the largest multistate Attorney General privacy settlement in the history of the United States. Oklahoma will receive $6,840,893.67 from the settlement.

OKLAHOMA CITY - Attorney General John O'Connor released the following statement, “Over twenty five years ago, on January 7, 1997, 54-year-old Barry Van Treese was murdered with a baseball bat in Oklahoma City. In 2004, an Oklahoma County jury convicted Richard Glossip of First-Degree Murder for hiring Justin Sneed to kill Mr. Van Treese. The Glossip conviction has been affirmed through numerous appeals and challenges. Today, the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals denied Glossip’s recent challenge, concluding that Glossip failed to show that he is innocent of the murder.

OKLAHOMA CITY - Attorney General John O’Connor announced today that Oklahoma and a coalition of other attorneys general obtained two multistate settlements with Experian concerning data breaches in 2012 and 2015 that compromised the personal information of millions of consumers nationwide. Experian is a credit reporting company that serves over one billion people.

The coalition has also obtained a separate settlement with T-Mobile in connection with the 2015 Experian breach, which impacted more than 15 million individuals who submitted credit applications with T-Mobile.

TULSA – A 40-count federal indictment was unsealed Wednesday charging 13 defendants with taking part in a large-scale conspiracy to steal catalytic converters from vehicles then sell them to wholesale buyers outside the state of Oklahoma, including New York and New Jersey. In addition to the indictments, over 32 search warrants were executed, and law enforcement seized millions of dollars in assets, including homes, bank accounts, cash, and luxury vehicles.

OKLAHOMA CITY - Attorney General John O’Connor announces the national Anti-Robocall Litigation Task Force has filed for a court order compelling the production of information from two voice service providers over their alleged involvement in illegal robocalls.

"Americans are sick and tired of robocalls," said Attorney General O’Connor. “They invade our privacy and interrupt our days. Some are legal, but many are scams attacking our vulnerable citizens, often the elderly.
